Acute Rehabilitation Center

Helping patients improve mental and physical functioning after a life-changing event.

The Acute Rehabilitation Center opened in 2011 as the only inpatient rehabilitation facility between Salinas and Santa Barbara. It was expanded to 20 beds in 2013, and its gymnasium and therapy areas will soon be expanded to accommodate additional therapies and technology.

Program:

  • Patients undergo three hours of therapy per day, five days per week to recover from a serious illness, injury or amputation
  • Offers physical, occupational and speech therapies with a 5:1 patient to nurse ratio
  • Care team includes a board certified rehabilitation physician, hospitalists, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologist, prosthetist, and a licensed clinical social worker
  • Average length of stay: 10-12 days
  • 80% of patients return directly to home
  • Caregiver training provided for families to continue care at home

Benefits:

  • Physical therapy improves gross motor skills including walking and balance
  • Occupational therapy improves fine motor skills used to complete daily tasks such as brushing teeth and getting dressed
  • Speech therapy improves cognitive function, speech production, and swallowing
  • Recreational therapy helps patients make improvements in the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and leisure areas of their lives
