A Beautiful Legacy
In 2019, longtime Arroyo Grande Community Hospital volunteer, Richard “Swede” Johnson, peacefully passed away at 87years old. Swede follows his dear wife Marilyn, who was also a volunteer at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital before passing away in 2014. Swede was a friend to everyone he met and is remembered with love by all.
Swede experienced difficult health issues that threatened to take his life early, but he lived for several years longer than doctors expected. Swede’s family believes that volunteering helped extend his life because of the sense of purpose and belonging he felt. To honor Swede and his dedication to serving at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, his family requested gifts to support the Volunteen Scholarship Fund in his obituary in lieu of flowers. These gifts will help many young Volunteens as they prepare for their bright futures while leaving a beautiful legacy for Swede.
The Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to all volunteers at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital who serve patients and visitors with warmth and compassion, as well as all those who support the Volunteen Scholarship Fund with gifts today or through their estate.
